Benefits of Muscular Endurance

What is it muscular endurance? Muscular endurance is one of the most essential components of fitness, as well as building strength. It is defined as “the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time.” The goal of building endurance is to get your muscles used to high number repetitions.

Benefits: Muscular endurance has the same benefits as muscular strength. They both increase metabolism, maintain good posture and prevent injuries. However, muscular endurance reduces fatigue, by getting the body used to resist for a long period of time.

What I like to do: Every muscular strength exercise can be turned into a muscular endurance exercise by doing a lightweight (or bodyweight) with a high number of repetitions. For example, to increase my back muscles’ endurance, I would do 3 sets of 15-20 repetitions of pull-up. Also, to build chest muscle endurance I like to do medicine ball pushups, 3 sets of 15-20 repetitions (Picture below.)
